for anyone who is a bookworm/subversive/politically concerned (and i think that is at least 70% of my friends list, word), you might appreciate this:

you've got to go to the bookstore and move all the copies of george orwell's "1984" from the fiction to nonfiction section. leave a trail.
i love it.
i got my haircut the other day by cutesy-trendy lady, and as is the custom we shot the shit for an hour and found we knew a lot of the same people in random ways. then i told her i'm moving to brooklyn (that's my big news this week) and she says, "oh, i have a good friend who recently moved out there, he's from around here, his name is sufjan stevens?" and me: "!!!!! i love him !!!!!! etc" and it turns out she went to high school with him and goes bowling with him and his sisters when he comes home while a swedish documentary team films the whole thing and i said "where's home?" and she says "i'm embarrassed to admit it, but alanson."
duuuuuuuuude. alanson is my town's neighbor town that is somehow even sadder and skankier than my town. their school was known by ours as the one that got set on fire occasionally and where all the sophomores were pregnant. to know that sufjan came outta there, oooh, i thought that was glorious. that ART can come out of alanson. i mean, i knew he was from michigan, and the hope connection, but this is just too cool... now i want to meet him and talk northern michigan childhoods and inland waterways and towering ponshewaing ice cream cones and my line might be, "we've lived all the same places, can i buy you a pbr?"
so yah. brooklyn or bust. maybe my little footsteps out of northern michigan could mean something too.
i'm going camping in canada tomorrow. i love canada. my brother is 20 and he can't wait to legally purchase some canadian beer. i want to see northern lights and a bearcub. high hopes.
